Tennant Leaves Doctor Who

without comments

Of the two modern era Doctors I would David Tennant was the better of the two.  He embraced all the great qualities of past Doctors with a great ability to be funny one minute and emotionally dramatic the next.  That being said, I don’t think it’s such a bad thing that Tennant’s leaving the role after 2009.  Maybe it’s time.  Of course, it all depends on who they hire to replace him.

Stargate Universe Concept Art

without comments

Sci Fi Wire has released concept art for Stargate Universe.  Nothing much here, but I still find myself interested in what this new series has to offer.  I’m hoping it will be more than a glorified Stargate Voyager.

Great New Star Trek Pics

without comments

TrekMovie.com has some great new pics from J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot. It surprising to me how much Karl Urban can be made to look like DeForest Kelley with a simple hairpiece.

Sci Fi announced it’s new film slate for the coming year.  Basically, more of the same crap.

Ryan Gosling as Green Lantern

without comments

Ryan Gosling is probably one of the most underused, even under-appreciated, actors in Hollywood.  The first time I saw Gosling as an actor was in Young Hercules, which left a lot to be desired.  Then came his star-making performance as a young Jewish man who becomes entangled in the neo-Nazi movement in The Believer.  Since then Gosling’s had a slow but steady rise in Hollywood.  Warner Brothers apparently likes what they see in Gosling, as well, because he’s the guy they would like to don the ring of Green Lantern.  I think this would be a great idea.  Gosling has the acting chops and he can pull off the physicality of the role.  I’ve never been much of a Green Lantern fan, but I would watch a movie featuring Gosling in the role. Besides, it’s time this guy had a big budget summer film with his name at the top.

Sactuary Off to a Great Start

without comments

Looks like Amanda Tapping was able to bring a larger audience to her new series than watched Stargate SG-1 or currently watches Stargate: Atlantis.  Nearly 3 million people checked out the series and that’s pretty damn good for the Sci Fi Channel.  If the series can maintain most of that audience, Sci Fi just may have a new hit on their hands.
As for the series itself I enjoyed it.  The two hour format lagged in a few areas but overall I was intrigued enough to keep watching.

Red Mars Comes to Television

without comments

When I admit to fellow science fiction readers they always look at me as if I’m mentally challenged, but I could never get through any of Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars novels (Red Mars, Green Mars, and Blue Mars).  They had moments of interest but for the most part they meandered all over the place and were quite boring in many places.  Now, it looks like AMC will make the books, at least the first one, into a weekly television series.  This might actually interest me if the writers of the series concentrate on the core characters and stories, especially if they don’t make it on the cheap and fill it with great actors.
